The date’s been chosen, the venue booked, and now it’s time to come up with the most important part – your summer party theme. Here at Banks Sadler we don’t shy away from fancy dress so whilst picking our own, we’ve uncovered some crackers, each with their own Pinterest board for even more inspiration.
Nothing says summer quite like a festival-themed party. Whether you’re channelling Glastonbury or Burning Man, this theme offers such great scope to be creative. Invite guests with wristbands or gig style lanyards and create some pre-event excitement with survival packs full of everything they will need for the evening. Seeing as it’s all about the music, why not hire a band to help guests get in the spirit, or create a playlist of festival headliners as a crowd pleaser. For theming, you’re spoilt for choice; festoon lighting, teepee tents, outdoor seating, open fire pits, hanging ribbons, flags and lanterns can all create the atmosphere, and for food and drink options then BBQ’s, beer tents and street food favourites are an obvious choice.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, so what better time to throw a hippie-inspired summer party. Unless you’re lucky enough to find a flower-filled meadow for your party then decorations will be key; adorn the space with plenty of bright colours, peace signs, tie dye and cushioned seating, and for some entertainment hire in a VW campervan photo booth or a 60’s cover band.

Perfect for a summer evening, this night at the movie’s theme takes inspiration from an old school drive in. Set up a big screen showing movie classics, scatter cushions and picnic hampers and greet guests with bags of popcorn and tubs of ice-cream. If you want to add a vintage touch, adopt a 50s/60s dress code and make way for the Sandys and Dannys.

Travel around the globe with a ‘round the world’ party theme. Invite guests with boarding passes or passport themed invitations and take them on a magical tour around the globe. Table centres can be themed by country and include maps, globes and vintage cases. Food and drinks can be inspired by different cuisines whilst guests can dress in traditional outfits, as a celebrity or even a mascot from each country.

One of the summer’s main celebrations is, of course, the 4th of July, so what better excuse to go all out Yankee style with white stripes and blue stars. Bring in red cups for games as well as drinking and don’t forget a menu of burgers, hot dogs and s’mores!

The enchanted garden is a beloved summer theme that can be personalised to your preference, whether you want to have twinkly lights and fairies or teacup cocktails and mad hatters. If you can get your hands on an outdoor space, simply drape in lighting for a mystical Midsummer Night’s Dream vibe. Or bring a British feel with classic lawn games, bunting and berry flavoured treats.

Style it out in 80s South Beach chic with turquoise and pink dress codes and reflective sunglasses. Think to sway palm trees, blow up flamingos and of course cocktails with umbrellas… and if you can turn up the heat with a pool party then you’re onto a winner.

Bring all the fun of the fair to your summer party with carnival games, red stripes and the scent of buttery popcorn. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to entertainment. Choose from classic games of hook a duck, ball in a bucket and coconut shy. Or for the more extravagant outdoor celebration, hire thrilling rides, dodgems or the famous Ferris wheel. Don’t forget funfair food with candyfloss, burgers and hotdog stands. And of course, some good old-fashioned face painting!

“Yes I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain”… well, that might actually happen at a British Tropicana themed party. Rain or shine, the tropics bring a guaranteed sunny vibe with palms and pineapples taking a lead theme.
