Our London office is an optimistic bunch (or most of them are anyway), so we’re staying hopeful for a hot British summer. We’ve put together a list of our favourite city rooftop spaces for group events and sunny celebrations, which we’re keeping our fingers crossed are drizzle-free!
Perhaps the most dramatic of rooftop spaces is Heron Tower’s Sushi Samba. Open all year round, you can dine and drink among the clouds with the tip of the Gherkin for the company. The prices might be high and the crowd is peak trendy, but you won’t find a better backdrop for a drop of sake.
One of last years’ hottest openings; this East London hotel is topped with a heated pool and retractable plant-filled conservatory. LIDO, the hotel’s second restaurant, is also on the rooftop serving a classic brasserie menu.
For the best views of St Pauls then you’ll want to head up to the penthouse of One New Change shopping centre. The spacious Madison bar is an outdoor terrace with a winning close view of the cathedral enjoyed with a cocktail and tapas.
On the 10th floor of the Montcalm Royal London House Hotel is an elegant rooftop bar with beautiful skyline views. The restaurant serves delicious British food on a heated terrace for those cooler evenings, whilst the cocktail menu carries on a botanical theme making it a truly Instagrammable experience.
Green & Fortune launched 2,300sq m of event space at the Sea Containers including a 200-seat amphitheatre, a private dining room overlooking St. Paul’s and a large blank canvas on the 12thfloor last year. The impressive spaces include a roof terrace with cityscape views for a reception of 150.
Radio Rooftop Bar
We couldn’t share the city’s top rooftop spaces without giving a spot to the ME’s Radio Rooftop Bar. The panoramic views are undeniably impressive stretching from Southbank to the Shard. A creative cocktail menu offers something for everyone whilst the tapas menu has us drooling with dishes such as blue cheese dates wrapped in pancetta.
The Ned Hotel has added another sought after rooftop to the city. However you’ll need to be a member or guest to enjoy its Italian marbled luxuries. A heated swimming pool, two bars and a restaurant complete with a retractable glass roof tops the 8th floor.
Commercial Street’s herb and vegetable garden atop a 1884 London pub is one of the city’s best-kept secrets. Guests can nibble on fresh dishes made from the ingredients that surround them whilst enjoying a cocktail among the courgettes.
Opening in April will be a rooftop terrace bar from the 13-storey Dorsett City Hotel. Indoor and outdoor space will provide capacity for 100 with iconic views of The Shard and Gherkin.
The 12th floor of the Hilton Doubletree Hotel looks out over Tower Bridge, The Shard and the River Thames with both indoor and outdoor seating. Summer events can take place in a private terrace or within the Westview SkyLounge area for up to 80 guests.
Rumpus Room, South Bank
Recently renovated as a bright riverside rooftop bar, the Rumpus Room is a perfect space for larger groups of up to 250 guests. Atop the Mondrian London hotel, South Bank views of the river can be seen from the elegant interiors and outside terrace.
Combine creative Japanese cuisine and stylish interiors at Aqua Kyoto whose beautiful rooftop overlooks the West End. 250 guests can take over the restaurant and terrace with a further 150 in the Aqua Spirit Bar.
Over in East London, panoramic views are enjoyed from the Shoreditch Sky Terrace, the Courthouse Hotel’s own rooftop space for up to 200 guests. BBQs are served in the summer with comfy seating and resident DJs.
What used to be an empty car park roof is now an urban event space in Stratford, Roof East. Known for hosting igloo pop ups and outdoor cinema screenings, the rooftop is available for private hire with street food vendors, games and a covered area for those rainy days.
Blue Fin, South Bank
The purpose-built Blue Fin venue offers two floors of event space including an indoor Wintergarden and two outdoor terraces looking out over St Paul’s and the Thames. The venues can accommodate up to 500 guests.
